Telecommunications Conference - February 2016

Trends and developments in the telecommunications sector

The latest trends and developments in the telecommunications sector were the focus of a conference organised by PwC in Nicosia on Friday, 12 February 2016.

Taking part in the conference were distinguished speakers from abroad as well as representatives of various state bodies who analysed issues such as the impact of digitalisation on the sector, finance trends in telecommunications, cybersecurity and the challenges arising from the EU’s 2020 vision and its digital agenda.

Minister of Transport, Communications and Works Marios Demetriades, Commissioner of Electronic Communications and Postal Regulation George Michaelides and the Head of Assurance & Advisory Services at PwC Cyprus Liakos Theodorou attended and addressed the conference.

The keynote speaker at the conference was Thomas Tandetzki, PwC’s Global Communications Sector Leader who shared his knowledge and expertise with participants briefing them on all the significant developments and innovations in the telecommunications sector.

According to Mr Tandetzki “The telecommunications operator industry is undergoing dramatic changes especially in Europe where market growth is stagnant and revenues are under pressure. The world is digitizing fast, creating new opportunities for the telecommunications industry that is expected to change fundamentally over the next few years. In order to remain competitive, operators need to embark on a more radical path towards transformation by simplifying, digitizing and consolidating their operations while customer expectations should be in the focus”.

Within the framework of the conference, participants had the opportunity to participate in interesting panel discussions and exchange views with the speakers on the sector’s future in Cyprus and Europe.
