PwC Cyprus was the platinum gold sponsor of the virtual Economist - 16th Cyprus Summit entitled "Europe: Putting solidarity to the test, Cyprus: In need of a new growth model?" that was held on 24 November 2020.
This year's summit included discussions around the difficult battle against the Covid-19 pandemic, governments, institutions, businesses and the civil society organisations are increasingly concerned about the economic and social repercussions of the pandemic both in the medium as well as in the long term. Thus, a wide debate took place on the need to reconsider governments’ budgetary policies, growth models, state intervention in the economy and the future of globalisation.
The summit was addressed by the President of the Republic, Mr Nicos Anastasiades, while our CEO, Evgenios Evgeniou addressed the audience and participated in a panel discussion together with Mr Klaus Regling, Managing director, European Stability Mechanism (ESM), Mr Jeroen Dijsselbloem, Chairman, Dutch Safety Board, former president, Eurogroup, Mr Harris Georgiades, Deputy leader, Democratic Rally Party, Former minister of finance, Republic of Cyprus and Mr Charis Pouangare, Deputy chief executive officer, Bank of Cyprus.
Commenting in the panel discussion, our CEO, Evgenios Evgeniou noted that "We shouldn’t miss this opportunity as a country to go down the path of reforms.
