PwC Cyprus was yet again the premium gold sponsor of the 13th Cyprus Summit organised by The Economist, entitled "Europe on the move - Cyprus in the fast lane?". The summit took place on 2 November 2017 at the Hilton Park hotel, Nicosia. This year's summit included discussions around the aftermath of crucial elections throughout Europe, Brexit and its implications, America’s new foreign policy and recent geopolitical developments as well as discussions about Cyprus being an energy investment hub in eastern Mediterranean.
The summit was addressed by the President of the Republic, Mr Nicos Anastasiades, while our CEO, Evgenios Evgeniou participated in a panel discussion together with the Minister of Finance Harris Georgiades and Klaus Regling, Managing Director, European Stability Mechanism.
Our CEO noted that the participation and support of such important events for the local business community is an ongoing goal of the organisation. Commenting on the theme of this year's conference, he said that “The Conference is taking place in a period of intense geopolitical and economic developments. Europe should focus on unleashing the entrepreneurial and innovation potential of its citizens. Similarly, Cyprus needs to address the challenge of non-performing loans by attempting bold solutions and to focus on competitiveness, in the ease of doing business but also on investments in R&D”
Our Partner, Head of Fund Services Andreas Yiasemides, participated in the panel discussion with title "An update on the Cypriot Banking Sector" and delivered a presentation on the "Fund Industry" representing the Cyprus Investment Funds Association (CIFA) association through his role as the Vice-Chairman of the BoD.
