Helping the Association for the welfare of people with mental handicap

The Association for the welfare of people with mental handicap was founded in July 1990 by the parents and friends of the persons with mental handicap: It is presently running two day care centers, one in Nicosia (Paphos Gate) and one in Strovolos, at Arch. Kyprianou Ave. No 109. The 24 persons attending these centers have such severe and profound physical and mental handicaps that they are not accepted by any other institution. The day care centers are always open to all the less fortunate members of our society without any discrimination as to race, creed, religion or color. The total cost for running the two centers amounts to the sum of 350000 euros. Government allowance, parents' contributions and donations can only cover, part of the expenses. Therefore, the association depends on the kind donations of all those who care in order to continue their mission.

Some of the basic objectives of the Association are:

  • The provision of day care, rehabiliation and education facilities to persons with mental and physical handicaps who are not accepted by any other institution.
  • The provision of help for integrating these persons into the general society at large.
  • Ensuring that these persons enjoy a healthy and respectable life and have the opportunities of self development.
  • Promoting the physical, spiritual and mental health of these persons and ensuring the prevention of mental handicap.
  • The provision of economic and other support for meeting health expenses of the persons with mental handicap.

Society's expectations of companies are growing significantly and we must look beyond those needs and make a positive and responsible contribution. Since the very beginning, we, in PwC Cyprus, aspire to be a great corporate citizen by playing a leading role in the community. Our current campaign, "Helping the Association for the welfare of people with mental handicap" focuses on this aspiration. Click the Facebook icon below to like our page & help people in need.
